Objective 2019

La Figaro du Solitaire, Figaro 3

How does Phil know Julien, and why did he ask him to race?

“Julien has been helping prepare Imerys Clean Energy for the race season in La Rochelle, which he has been able to fit in around his Class Mini coaching job for a large fleet of 16.

“Preparing a race boat is no easy task, there are many, many things to consider and it can be a pressured role to fulfil. Julien has been a great help, and clearly motivated in anything he does. Especially, he has some very impressive sailing results, particularly winning Rookie Class in the Solitaire du Figaro last year. I have no doubt that he will bring some great skills out there, and I’m looking forward to sharing the battle in a bid to take the cup back! ” Phil Sharp, Skipper of Imerys Clean Energy

Julien’s thoughts on the race ahead

“I have competed in the Normandy Channel Race only once before in 2012 finishing 3rd and this year I am very excited to be racing again. For me the course is very interesting as it brings a mix of both inshore and offshore racing, making the tactics much more challenging and diverse. Though it will be a steep learning curve for me as I have not had much training with the boat and Phil, our mission remains – to aim for a top result!” Julien Pulvé, Co-Skipper of Imerys Clean Energy.
